Each may never have been written or spoken spoken before. How is this possible? People do not learn language by memorizing millions of sentences. Instead, they learn to attach meaning to particular words. Then they begin to acquire a grammar, which can generate an infinite number of new sentences.

When people talk, they    (4. Just not repeat)     sentences that they have already learned; they    (5. Organize)    words into grammatical sentences. They    (6. Create)    sentences, many of which they have never heard before.

Thus, when you understand the grammar of a language and you know enough vocabulary, you will be able to “say” the same thing in any number of ways – many of them quite original.
